Under Salting Pasta Water
Cooking pasta seems like a decently easy process. However, if you boil pasta without salting the water first, you miss out on flavor that can make your dish so much better. Salt flavors the pasta from the inside and keeps your noodles from being bland. How much salt you use depends on your personal taste, but a good rule of thumb to start with is 1 ½ tablespoons per pound of pasta.
Using Dull Knives
Many people think that as long as their knives can cut through food, the knives are fine to use. However, using dull knives can make your cooking process more difficult and, often, more dangerous. When knives aren’t sharp, you have to use more force to cut and chop foods, which can increase your chance of injury while preparing your food.
Sharpening your kitchen knives is a fairly easy process. You can find automatic knife sharpeners in stores and online to make the process as simple as possible. You can also find video tutorials online if you choose to manually sharpen your knives.
Overcrowding the Pan
Often when we’re cooking, we get in a bit of a hurry and try to cook too many things at the same time in the same pan to speed up the process. However, doing this can significantly hinder how the food cooks. Food releases moisture as it cooks, and if there is not room for that moisture to escape, then the food will become soggy. If you need to cook a lot of food at the same time, use a bigger pan or a few different pans to let the food cook properly.
